Generally, carbohydrates found in natural plant foods are low in calories and take longer for the body to digest and absorb. When you eat a whole grain, bean, vegetable, or fruit, your body has to work hard to break down the plant and remove the individual sugars from the fiber and the complex chain within which the sugars are held.

After having a baby, many women are disappointed to find that they still carry some extra weight. With so many celebrities slimming right back in to shape, it may make you wonder if there is some super secret to postpartum weight loss that they aren't sharing. Well, in actuality there are several secrets to losing those extra pregnancy pounds - read on to learn great tips for post baby weight loss.

The first thing to remember is that "You JUST had a BABY!" so give yourself some time. It took you 9 months to gain the weight, it may take you that long to lose it. Sometimes though, you may not lose all of the pounds you gained, but you may lose all of the inches (if that makes sense). Most women find that their bodies have changed after having a baby. Usually you are more curvy than before...which can be a good thing! So remember, take it slow, and don't be so hard on yourself.

Strength training can be an exciting, safe way to help women lose that postpartum weight and get their bodies back into the best shape they have ever been in. Women are now able to get rid of that extra weight around their middle as well as that extra weight that causes those unsightly love handles that so many women have after they give birth.

There is a very successful businesswoman named Heidi Roizen who had an ah-ha moment about weight loss. When she stepped on the scale and realized she weighed more than her husband, she knew something had to change. She looked for music to help inspire her to lose weight but she couldn't find any tunes with great lyrics. So she created her own! The CD is titled "Skinny Songs" and includes songs like "Skinny Jeans," "Thin!" and "The Incredible Shrinking Woman.

One of the greatest helps to me was to have a plan. I know it can seem like you have no time or energy to sit and write a plan but it really is worth it. My head was always in a daze when my son was first born, meaning that when it came to making decisions I would always forget where I left off and having something written down saved me time and hassle. I could just be like "Where was I? What am I doing?" and then refer to the plan and be instantly refreshed about my decisions. Deciding what to eat when all you care about is looking after your new bundle of joy doesn't really get the importance it really needs.

Many people get lost in the middle of dieting because there are just too many things to consider. There are just so many information claiming to be the best. If you stay on track of fitness, you will lose weight. Just load your plate with colourful fruits and vegetables. Protein-rich foods should also occupy a space in your plate. As for carbohydrates, lessen your intake of starchy carbs such as white bread.

During pregnancy there is a real need for more calories, but a post pregnancy diet doesn't require these extra calories, although breastfeeding does need some more. This can be one of the major causes of preventing successful postpartum weight loss and causing long term weight problems for many women.

Pregnancy, giving birth and having a new baby to look after are all extremely stressful, hard on your body and can leave you feeling exhausted. Taking care of you new baby requires a lot of energy and chances are you won't be getting enough rest. That's why it is so important even if you are not breast feeding that instead of only focusing on losing weight fast, you also focus on giving your body the nutrition and energy that it needs to get through this stressful time.
